Independence Day: Resurgence Opens to a Cold Start with Critics

Independence Day: Resurgence fails to impress many critics with its fast paced story and CGI filled effects.

Back in 1996, Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day starring Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman was something fresh in the theaters. It was something new, not completely novel but great to watch and a bang bang of action that people crave for. There were alien ships that were almost believable, the aliens that terrified and the heroes that someone seemed real.

So 20 years later, if the movie was looking forward to making the same effect, it has not been successful. The movie’s plot revolves around Earth building up its defence with the alien technology that they got 20 years ago. It has allowed them to colonize the moon, explore depths of Earth with modern technology and establish air combat bases around the world.

Even though they beat the aliens, people of Earth are still expecting them to come back. How else could you explain all the expensive defence tactics? So the aliens come back, bigger and better. The captured aliens are rejoicing as a huge queen alien collector invades the Earth. Before that big UFOs and anti-gravity ships invade and destroy Earth once more.

Destroying all the landmarks and creating an anti-gravity force that makes all the buildings come up and then back again to the ground. The original cast of the movie Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner are reliving their alien fighting days from 20 years back.

Other than that the new generation, spearheaded by brash, uninteresting Liam Hemsworth; Jessie T. Usher, portraying the son of the original Will Smith character; Maika Monroe as the former president’s jet pilot daughter, seem like a scheme to attract the younger audience and make it look cool.

The critics have thoroughly criticized the movie for its lack of story and originality. The special effects and the unrealistic depiction of aliens in the movie completely throws off the audience.

Meanwhile other critics claim that the movie will be a hit with the audience who will get their money’s worth of big action once more. The movie has till yet earned up to $4 million on the Thursday late night opening.
