The Facebook owned messaging service is also big in voice. Every 10th WhatsApp user is also using WhatsApp Calling.

WhatsApp launched the voice call feature WhatsApp Calling a year ago. The company revealed that users make more than 100 million voice calls every day on WhatsApp. Every 10th WhatsApp user also uses the service to make voice calls.

This is over 1,100 calls a second. We are not talking about text messages here. This is over a thousand voice calls per second.

In a statement on the WhatsApp blog the messaging service states: "We're humbled that so many people have found this feature useful, and we're committed to making it even better in the months to come."

WhatsApp has dramatic scale. As of February the service has over 1 billion users. While having over a billion users is amazing, it also comes with great responsibility.

The company needs to keep the service up and running at all times and keep it secure.

WhatsApp said in February: "Every day, our team continues to work to improve WhatsApp's speed, reliability, security and simplicity. We're excited to see how far we've come. But now, it's back to work – because we still have another 6 billion people to get on WhatsApp, and a long way left to go. "
