Working Macintosh SE Off Craigslist Has Naughty Secret
Apple Macintosh SE

A redditor bought an old late 80s Apple Macintosh upgraded with more RAM and Ethernet card, which was expensive back then, but there is more.

An 80s Apple Macintosh SE bought on Craigslist came with a little surprise for the new owner. Redditor wowbobwow shared his hilarious find in a very entertaining photo story on imgur.

The classic Macintosh SE with CRT monitor has 1MB of RAM, 20MB HDD and runs on a 7.7Ghz Motorola 68000 CPU. For the original owner this was not enough and he upgraded his Macintosh to 2MB RAM. Additionally this classic Apple computer was upgraded with an Ethernet card. Both upgrades broke the bank end of the 80s and added quite a bit to the $3,900 purchase price.

Turns out the owner was already in home automation back in the late 80s. He ran an X-10 Home Control System. He or she clearly has been part of the geek community. The X-10 Home Control System could control lights, heating and air condition. This was basically your Nest or HomeKit of the 80s.

The owner also had floor plans of his home on the Macintosh SE, created with MacPaint. This likely took hours to make. But now we come to the highlight. In a folder called America Online was a Playmate folder. You know where this is going now - naughty stuff.

Inside the folder is an app called MacPlaymate. App author Mike Saenz developed MacPlaymate in 1986. He described it as "Interactive Erotica for the Mac." When you launch the app an animated sultry lady called Maxie welcomes you to an intimate adventure. The best part is the ever present Panic button that displays a spreadsheet instead of the MacPlaymate lady.

The MacPlaymate software is still out there on the internets as .sit file.
