The amount of information the new Pokemon Go augmented reality game has about the real world just blew my mind.

I am not a gamer and not a Pokemon fan at all, but I just felt the damn Pokemon fever. It's Sunday and the Pokemon hype still going strong four days into the launch. I decided to give a Pokemon Go a swirl so I better understand what this new viral game is all about. I am in Germany and Pokemon Go has been delayed for Europe including the UK and Germany. This is though no problem as I have an US iTunes account.

This is the trick for everyone outside of the United States, Australia and New Zealand to play Pokemon Go now ahead of the official release that Niantic Labs postponed because of server capacity issues.

I signed into Pokemon Go and immediately saw a sight on the map that is outside the office window. I was puzzled. My office is in Herrsching at the Ammersee lake. The sight Pokemon Go knows about is a historic band saw from the carpenter next door. This bandsaw is nothing special really. Very few people find it interesting enough when passing it to take a closer look. I never understood those people.

The makers of Pokemon Go have decided for some weird reason that the band saw is a sight in the game. I can now step out the office every couple of minutes to get some Pokeballs and eggs. Depending how popular Pokemon Go becomes in Germany, more people will now walk up to the bandsaw in front of my office. This is kind of crazy, but also fun.

The deep detailed knowledge of the real world shows that Niantic Labs heritage. The company was started inside of Google in 2010 before it got spun out in 2015. Niantic Labs released the AR game Ingress in 2013, which uses the same real world data as Pokemon Go.

I never would have imagined to mention that bandsaw on I4U News, but it just happened. Besides some Pokeballs, I also caught two Pokemon around the bandsaw.

There is also a near-by Pokemon Gym and more sights in the near-by park at the lake. I saw Picachu in park, but then I decided to shake off the Pokemon fever and get back to work. I am not a gamer.
