The Apple car is reportedly delayed by one year to 2021.

The Apple Car is an open secret as Elon Musk puts it. Apple never has talked about it, but the evidence that Apple is working on a car under the codename Titan is plentiful. Apple hired lots of car people and rented space in Sunnyvale to work on the secret project.

Apple software engineers have also been transferred to work on project Titan. In a new report on The Information, Amir Efrati profiles the three Sumner brothers who worked together on Siri. Now they are working on different aspects on the Apple Car. Voice control is certainly an aspect of the Apple car which is likely an electric car with autonomous driving capabilities.

Efrati also writes (subscription) that according to one person who worked briefly with the Titan team was told during their tenure at Apple that the company had been trying to deliver a vehicle by 2020 but the target slipped to 2021. Is the Apple car project in trouble. There have already reportedly been leadership changes earlier this year.

I am not a tiny bit excited about an Apple Car. I like driving - fast. If I go electric it will be a Tesla. This will be true also in 5 years. The Apple Car will not have a ludicrous mode. It will just not fit the image of the "responsible" Apple.
