Niantic Releases Pokemon Go App 0.31.0 for Android and Pokemon Go App 1.1.0 for iOS

There is a new major update of the Pokemon Go app available for Android smartphones and iPhones.

Things start to normalize at Niantic, maker of the viral Pokemon Go game. The company released on Sunday an update to the Pokemon Go app on Android and iOS. The "normal" aspect of the Pokemon Go App 0.31.0 for Android and Pokemon Go App 1.1.0 for iOS update is that Niantic published release notes on Facebook.

The new Pokemon Go app update list of new features and fixes includes avatar customization, refined gym animations and the removal of footprints of nearby Pokemon.

The removal of footprints of nearby Pokemon has trainers already up in arms. How should they know where to go to find Pokemon without footprints? Correct. They need to use an unofficial Pokemon radar or tracker. Most of these services are based on unofficial and reverse engineered Pokemon Go APIs. The Pokemon Company has just began to send lawyers after the developers of these enabling Pokemon Go APIs.

The removal of the footprints is the final nail into the crippled Nearby feature. Niantic has disabled the calculations of the distance of nearby Pokemon to reduce the load on servers. The "bug" is known as the 3 step glitch. By removing the user interface for nearby, Niantic sets a sign saying that they are still far from fixing that issue.

On the one hand Niantic is not able to deliver the tools and features to effectively play the game, but the also go after the 3rd parties that do.

I said that things start to normalize, but Pokemon Go is far from a robust game platform. There is still a lot of work to do for Niantic.
