Uber Will Invest $500 for Making its own Global Maps

The cab company is going to pour $500 Million into mapping the world's roads.

Uber is going to invest a hug amount of money in order to map the roads of the world. The company is looking to invest an amount of almost $500 Million in order to make its own worldwide maps, according to Financial Times.

This will lift Uber’s dependability on Google Maps and it will be able to rely on its own resources. Along with these, this project is considered as a milestone for the driverless cars that will go on in the few years to come.

Uber, which is based in San-Francisco, has been mapping different cities of the U.S and Mexico in its mapping vehicles for the past few months. The company however, is looking forward to expanding this mapping mission to other countries as well. The reach of mapping to other countries will result in global mapping that can be used easily as an alternative to google maps.

Uber has certainly gained immense popularity all over the world due to its transport system. The earlier work of the company was however all dependent on the existing hardware and software prepared by other companies. So Uber had to rely on the companies in order to run its own business.

The investment like that will help the company carry out its own research and to have the right kind of long term growth that is needed by any business. The original research on mapping by the company will surely yield more customized results that will be fit for their own vehicles. Later on the mapping can add on to the autonomous cars that will be driven by Uber or any other company as well.

Right now Uber is providing its services in almost 60 countries thus having this kind of investment is a great thing to do.
