It seems to be the case that apparently Millennials are hardly having as much sex as their reputation shows. On the contrary, the so-called hookup generation is not that much into getting physical.

The youthful adults of America are not doing the beast with two backs that often. Despite the fact that America has never been more liberal in its sexual habits, especially premarital sex, Millennials are choosing to delay sex.

This is the generation that was born in the 90s. The novel sexual revolution has not had such a deep impact on this generation.

This study shows the mirror to the assumption that Millennials are the hookup generation. They are thought to get together and have nookie at the drop of a hat. Just give any two of them, having opposite sexes, the opportunity and they will be into the bumping and grinding in no time.

This notion has been made even more common than usual by dating applications such as Tinder. Few people are able to shake off the feeling that today’s Millennials are just into predatory behavior and have casual sex. This is in fact hardly the case.

Millennials are no more and no less promiscuous than those who came before them. The study showed that the sexual inertness of Millennials is not due to the time period or the decade alone.

Rather it has so much to do with the generation. It is the generation that matters here and not the temper of the times that is the issue. The change in norms has nothing to do with it. Rather the difference in generations has everything to do with it.

Sexual inactivity rates were tabulated for 20 to 24 year olds. Then adults between 18 and 96 years of age were also included in the mix and they included those since the year 1989.

Among some of the factors that got examined were: gender, ethnicity, locale and spiritual orientation. Millennials born in the 90s had no sexual partners after the age of 18.

This was in contrast to Generation X which was born in the 60s. Rather the generation born in 1920 showed higher sexual activity in its members. The sexual inactivity was greater in the 90s born generation among women than men. It was not so in case of Black Americans.

The differences were of key significance. Among the reasons for this shift from sexual activity to sexual inactivity were: the dangers of contracting AIDS as well as easy access to pornography not to mention sex education. The very definition of sex seems to have undergone a massive seismic shift.
