Just received a little message from Elon.

I did not know that Elon Musk and I are on first name basis. I just received in the mail a little thank you gift from Tesla Motors. The card reads: "Thank you for ordering a Model 3." - Elon. That's nice.

Also included in the card is a picture with design drawings of the Model 3 by Tesla Chief designer Franz von Holzhausen. I ordered a Tesla Model 3 on the first day back in March in the Tesla Motors store in Munich.

Tesla received about 400,000 pre-orders for the Model 3. This is quite impressive for a car that is not even finalized. The first cars are supposed to ship in late 2017. In June Elon Musk said that the design of the Model 3 will be finalized this month. In the first reveal back in March the interior was completely unfinished. The exterior we saw is also supposed to be not final.

So far everything is supposed to be on track with the Model 3. The "affordable" Model 3 will take the electric vehicle market into a new era. Parallel to the preparation of the Model 3 production, Tesla has opened the Giga Factory. The gigantic plant is essential for the supply of batteries for the Model 3.

Starting at $35,000 the Model 3 features a range of at least 215 miles. The acceleration will be from 0 to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. The small sedan will seat 5 comfortably and will be available in several variants. The base model will be rear wheel drive only.
