Tesla might be close to release a high capacity version of the Model X and Model S.

Elon Musk's Tesla has made several headlines in the past days. Here is a quick round-up. The Tesla Model S and Model X might soon be released as 100D and P100D versions. The 10kWh higher capacity battery is supposed to extend the range to 380 miles. The Model S 90D has a range of 294 miles. The increase is substantial.

The Information reports that the leading engineer on the maps and navigation software has left Tesla. Bill Chen worked at Tesla for 2 years working on the high precision maps for the Tesla Autopilot feature. Tesla reportedly plans to have map data that includes specific lane information to support self-driving better. Mr. Chen is also believed to have worked on a new map display replacing Google Maps in Tesla cars. The engineer came from Apple's map team.

Elon Musk's and his ambitious goals for he sets for his companies are the central topic of a new Wall Street Journal story. "I have never set a goal which I know is unrealistic, unless I have specifically said I know it’s unrealistic," said Elon Musk in an interview. Yet, Tesla failed to meet more than 20 of his projections, and missed 10 goals by nearly a year on average according to the WSJ.

We have got used to Elon Musk's aggressive goals. He is on a mission. The real test is if it all works out at the end eventually. The Model 3 is the big test for Tesla. Can the company scale the production. There are 400,000 pre-orders that need to be filled.

All signs point to an electric car future and Tesla could be the big winner with the bold plans like the Gigafactory. I don't see Volkswagen building a Gigafactory yet.

Norway and the Netherlands are getting closer to outlaw diesel and petrol cars by 2025. The Model 3 should be on sale by then. Elon Musk is not going to miss by 8 years.
