  • The First Self Driving Fleet of Uber cars is Coming this Month at Pittsburgh

Uber is launching its autonomous cars this month as its self-driving project.

Uber is all set to launch the first fleet of self-driving cars this month. These cars will roam about the city of Pittsburgh, giving rides to customers. These cars will have a driver who will monitor the functioning of car’s drive instead of actually driving it. This will also help the driver to keep an eye on the potential accident hazard in case it happens.

Uber was working on the project from 2014. It is time that this company is finally launching the program. The company hired some of the biggest names in the tech industry to work on this project. Thus this kind of project came into being.

The Uber customers will get the facility of these autonomous cars in the downtown area of Pittsburgh, according to Bloomberg. They will be able to use this facility by summoning the cars through Uber application. This is the first time autonomous car sharing service will be available for general public.

The cars that will be used for this project include Volvo XC90 sport utility vehicle. These Volvos are specifically modified for self-driving technology. These cars will be supervised by humans from the time being. These cars will have high technology including sensors, cameras, lasers, LIDAR system and GPS technology.

Uber plans to make sure that its company gets partnered up with other companies like Volvo to make this project a go. The company is planning to launch many other cars for the future as well.

A full project for autonomous cars will cost around $680 million. Other companies like that of Otto has also developed kits for self-driving for trucks. Thus the kind of technology that Uber is trying to bring to world is nothing new but a good start for sure.
