Pokemon Tracker: PokeDetector App Notifies You About Nearby Pokemon

A new app for the iPhone notifies you when a Pokemon you look for is nearby.

Pokemon Go Trackers and maps are still very popular, despite the use of these 3rd party tools can get trainers permanently banned. The reason for this is that Niantic has not yet given all trainers an in-app Pokemon tracker. Not knowing where to find a desired Pokemon is just demoralizing Pokemon Go players.

Update 08/23: Niantic introduces a new security update with the release of new Pokemon Go app updates that will break bots and Pokemon trackers.

It is a weird situation as Niantic is going after Pokemon Go players that use 3rd party software, but is not offering a viable in-game alternative. The new Pokemon Go Nearby feature is in testing with select regions since August 8. Niantic has not announced yet when the new Pokemon Go tracker feature will be rolled out globally.

iPhone uses got a new Pokemon Go tracker app with the PokeDetector. With PokeDetector, trainers can select only the Pokemon they are looking for, and let their iPhone in stand-by. Trainers will get notified as soon as one of their selected Pokemon spawns nearby (within 50 meters). The app uses the Pokemon location data from FastPokeMap.

This sounds convenient and based on the first reviews of the app, works well. PokeDetector is free on iTunes. It is interesting that Apple is still approving 3rd party Pokemon Go apps. Google does not allow any 3rd party Pokemon Go apps into the Google Play Android store.

All 3rd Party apps basically infringe on the Pokemon trademark and many of them including PokeDetector access data on the Pokemon Go servers. Usage of any 3rd party Pokemon Go tool can get you banned, but you still can download these apps from iTunes. Niantic has apparently not been able to get through to Apple about this.

Apple is making a ton of money from Pokemon Go. It is weird that the 3rd party app situation is not cleared, like it is on the Google Play store.
