Naya Rivera reveals that she got an abortion when she starred on Glee to keep pursuit of her career.

We all know her as Santana Lopez from Glee but Naya Rivera’s journey on the hit musical show Glee has been nothing less of a roller coaster ride.

Arguably one of the strongest voices in the competition, Naya constantly had to grapple her way to the spotlight and she did for a few episodes in which she made her character Santana shine.

Her feud in the 5th season with Leah Michelle got her role cut from the show and she was painted into a negative viewpoint by some. Some argued that her attitude was not right compared to Leah’s grieving but positive attitude after losing boyfriend Cory Monteith.

What we never expected was that Naya was going through her own personal struggles during the show. In her soon-to-be-published memoir, Sorry Not Sorry: Dreams, Mistakes and Growing Up, she revealed that she had an abortion while she was working on the show.

According to Naya, she was pregnant with boyfriend Ryan Dorsey’s baby but they had broken up then. She had headed out during a day off from filming the show and gotten an abortion.

She was alone during the procedure and returned as nothing had happened. She said duering her interview with People magazine that she had taken the step to keep her career going. This happened back in 2010. Following that, Naya and Ryan reconciled, they got married and they have a beautiful boy together now named Josey.

This information is however emotional and numbing for many. Naya says about her revelation that it was scary. It is something people don’t talk about but they should, she said.

She said that a lot of people will question her motives but she hopes that someone out there facing the same issues might get her perspective. Naya also talked about her struggle with anorexia from a young age and the challenges of being a mixed-race actress in Hollywood.
