The Tesla Software Release 7.0 came out in October of last year bringing the controversial Autopilot feature. What the release 8.0 will bring will be announced later today. Elon Musk said on Twitter this morning that he is writing the post now. Is he really writing this stuff himself? If he does, it is quite interesting what he prioritizes to do himself and what to delegate.
Update 09/05/: Mr. Iron Man forgot that its Labor Day weekend and nobody is at work helping him to write down the Software Update 8.0 release notes as he promised to do so by the end of last week. Let's see when Elon Musk is getting around to do it. Maybe next time, he should just publish stuff and Tweet about it when its done and online.
Update 09/02: Elon Musk is now promising the Tesla Software Update 8.0 update with the details of the new Autopilot by end of the week, which is today. The Falcon 9 explosion took some additional attention away from this apparently.

Update 09/01: It is officially after midnight now in America and Elon Musk did not publish the promised Tesla Update 8.0 details on Wednesday. He was just again too optimistic apparently. Maybe something else came up. We will update this report, once the Tesla Software Release 8.0 details get revealed.
Usually a marketing person would write up what is new in a software release. There have been already some leaks about the Tesla 8.0 update. The new release will be big and will bring a major user interface upgrade along with changes to Autopilot. One of the new additions is according to electrek, an automatic off-ramp with the turn signal. Your Tesla will be automatically be able to take a highway exit. Also new is the ability to handle highway interchanges without disengaging the Autopilot, reported electrek this week.
Tesla also adds new safety measures for using Autopilot. The system is checking if the driver is aware and pays attention to traffic. Drivers are required to hold the steering wheel. If a driver is not doing it after a certain amount of time, autopilot disengages and slows down the car.
I personally do not care much about autopilot. I love to drive and I am not a commuter. For driving in highway traffic the autopilot has its merit, despite not being to take a nap.
Also new are improved voice commands that does not require to hold the button. The system also shows what it understood. Tesla has been testing the 8.0 release with select Tesla driver over the summer.
Tesla cars are updated over the air. No need to come to a service location to receive the new update.
Elon Musk already mentioned an update version 8.1 as well today. That means not all features will be released in the first release. Some come in a follow-up release later.
