Corning Announces Gorilla Glass SR+ For Wearables

Corning plans on entering the wearables market after saturating the smartphone market with its screen protectors.

With its new Gorilla Glass SR+ the company has assures smartwatches wearers that their watches will remain safe from bumps and scrapes that they might otherwise receive all the while ensuring that their displays shall remain clear and responsive.

The Gorilla Glass 5 has the ability to save your smartphones from a 5 foot fall but in the case of wearables you don’t have to worry about drops from that distance. So instead Corning has worked to create a protector which is optimal for daily wear and tear.

According to the company and proven by lab tests the SR+ has more scratch resistance than other "alternative luxury cover materials” and ensures that your watch is 70% more likely to survive damage from an impact.

Other than this the SR+ apparently has 25 percent better surface reflection compared to the alternatives which all for better display outdoors. The SR+ is available for sale and the company has estimated that it will be the top choice for most "leading global brands" by the end of this year.

Samsung Gear S3 is the first smartwatch to use Gorilla Glass SR+.
