George R.R. Martin has been publicly taunted for taking so long to release his Game of Thrones novels. In fact, the show has caught up with him and is now venturing toward their own storylines.

So does his next novel have a publication date? Nothing is official yet.

However, Amazon France has a listing for The Winds of Winter that was quickly found by fans. The listing, which is still live, has March 2017 down - which is extremely soon for people who thought it would take at least another year.

When taken at face value, the date might actually make sense. Book releases are planned far in advance, but this one would coincide with the next season of the show. However, the show isn't actually premiering when it usually does, so it goes back into the "uncertain" zone.

Martin's UK Publisher, HarperCollins, said that so far, “nothing has been finalized regarding the publication or the date.” (Martin’s U.S. publisher, Penguin Random House, could not be reached for comment). Amazon has posted false placeholders in the past, and Martin has said that he wants to be the first person to announce that his book is finished. Until you see it there, everything is probably just a tease.

Martin has said before that he won't stress over publishing dates. “I am not going to set another deadline for myself to trip over,” Martin wrote at the time. “The deadlines just stress me out. I am going back to my stance from last March, before all this. It will be done when it’s done. And it will be as good as I can possibly make it.” Martin has also posted occasional Winds chapters on his blog.

In the meantime, you can find Martin’s latest Wild Cards novel, High Stakes in hardcover.
