Power Rangers Movie Resembles with Chronicle
  • Max Landis Vents about Power Ranger’s Resemblance with Chronicle

Max Landis takes to Twitter to talk about the similarities between Chronicle and the new Power Rangers teaser.

The trailer for the upcoming movie Power Rangers was premiered at New York Comic Con. The trailer features all five of the main characters and how they are different from the crowd. We see five young people who are bullied, laughed at or simple outcasts.

They come together through their predicament. Together they come upon something alien. Their exposure to the object gives them powers or Hjinks like strength, heat touch and even flying off the cliffs. They are in experimental phases of their powers. The teaser looks fun and it is definitely a thrill to watch.

However, many fans could not help but notice the similarities in the new teaser with a previously released movie Chronicle. Chronicle was released in 2012 and featured Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan and Alex Russell.

The movie was about three high school teens that come upon something in a cave that gives them Hjinks or powers. The first half of the movie is about them exploring their powers and the second half turns into real trouble.

There are some scenes in the teaser that seems exactly like the scenes from Chronicle. There is a reason for that. The writer of Chronicle, Max Landis; first penned a script for the Power Rangers movie a few years ago.

The production did not approve of the story and Max left the project. He moved on to make Chronicle based on his script. Supposedly the studio adopted the ideas that Max had wrote for the movie.

Max also noticed and he vented his anger on Twitter about the movie’s similarities. He wrote on Twitter that; I wrote a silly, fun, goofy retro teen action adventure movie.

They fired me, and five or so writers later, it appears they made Chronicle.” He added in another post, Yeah, it appears they hired the writer of Chronicle and he wrote a Power Rangers movie, so they fired him and made Chronicle instead.”

We will have to wait to see the full movie before we can determine whether Power Rangers is a rip-off of Chronicle or there is more material to interest the audience.

Power Rangers is directed by Dean Israelite. The movie will arrive in theaters on March 24, 2017.
