The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 is the last Nobel Prize of 2016.

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 will be announced on Thursday October 13, 1:00 p.m. Swedish time, 8am Eastern. The announcement of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 will be streamed live again online.

This year's Nobel Prize in Literature marks the 109th time the prize will be awarded. Last year the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to the Belarusian author Svetlana Alexievich.

Alfred Nobel had broad cultural interests. During his early youth, he developed his literary interests which lasted throughout his life. His library consisted of a rich and broad selection of literature in different languages. During the last years of his life, he tried his hand as an author and began writing fiction. Literature was the fourth prize area Nobel mentioned in his will.

The Nobel Prize winner predictions did mostly miss this year. Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 predictions do not make much sense either. The committee has reviewed over 200 nominations this year. The committee has cut down the list to 20 in May. The decision who will win the Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 has been made in early October.

Betting company Ladbrokes has Ngugi Wa Thiong'o, Haruki Murakami, Adunis, Don DeLillo and Philip Roth listed as possible candidates to win this year's Literature Nobel Prize.

The Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded by the Swedish Academy, Stockholm, Sweden. Watch the live announcement of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 below.
