The sales of the Model S spiked 59% in the last quarter of 2015. This jump in sales took the already sizable lead by Tesla in the luxury sedan market a bit further. According to Bloomberg, Tesla has stated they are now providing sedans for a third of all the demand in the market.
The other sales in the market are dominated by Tesla's competitors like BMW 7-Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Although Tesla keeps these sale numbers usually confidential they seem to have released them to show how far they have come.
This year specifically Tesla sold more than 5,428 Model X in the US luxury SUV market, which gives it 6% of the market share. This is Tesla highest production mark since it started production.
Tesla also stated they outsold the likes of Porsche and Land Rover, but are still behind brands like Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, Volvo, Audi, and Lexus. Even Kenn Sparks, a BMW spokesperson stated Tesla’s numbers show electric cars are on the rise and gaining popularity.
For a long time Tesla and most importantly their CEO Elon Musk, had been trying to up their sales so they could increase spending on other research areas. Previously sources disclosed Tesla is trying to buy SolarCity Corp. to come up with their lowest priced sedan which will probably be named Model 3, with a price tag of just $35,000.
