The Oculus Rift and HTC Vive virtual reality headsets are ripe for Black Friday deals.
The Sony PlayStation VR has stormed onto the market on October 13. The $499.99 PSVR Launch Bundle has sold out and is only available on Sam's Club. PS4 owners can still find the $399.99 PSVR Core in stock at select retailers. Amazon ships it with 4 to 5 days delay. Sony has already captured a large junk of the home virtual reality market in the first days of launch.

From the looks of it, Sony does not have a supply issue with the PlayStation VR as the Core is still available. There is still time for Sony to pump more PSVR inventory into stores for Black Friday and the Holidays. Now it is time for HTC and Oculus in partnership with Microsoft to counter the Sony offensive.
Both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive have not been offered at a discount since launch. The Oculus Rift sells for $599. The Oculus Rift including the new Oculus touch controllers (ship December) sells for $798. The HTC Vive for $799.99 including VR controllers.
The supply constraints of the Oculus Rift are a thing of the past. HTC was able to scale production of the Vive pretty quickly and had enough supply all year. Both virtual reality headsets for Windows 10 PCs have launched in Spring. This is their first fall shopping season. It is time to cut the prices to get more consumers on board.
So far virtual reality fans only could save on the Oculus and Vive when buying a virtual reality PC bundle. The Microsoft Store offers the Oculus Rift VR Headset and ASUS G11CD Signature Edition Desktop Bundle for $1,449. This deal saves $200.
The Oculus Rift VR Headset and Alienware X51 R3 Signature Edition Desktop Bundle is off $299, selling for $1,999. Oculus Rift VR Headset and Alienware Area-51 Signature Edition Desktop Bundle is on sale for $2,699, saving $199. These Oculus Rift Bundle deals are available on microsoftstore.com.
Microsoft and PC manufacturers have an interest in helping the sale of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The VR glasses need a powerful PC to work. Consumers need to spend at least $1,000 on a VR ready PC. One of the above bundle deals is already cutting the cost of the PC to $900. There is a lot of room for Black Friday 2016 VR Bundle deals. The VR headset makers, PC makers and Microsoft can partner up to design interestingly priced bundles.
We also expect Oculus and HTC to cut the price of their VR headsets by at least $50 and bundle free stuff with it. The Sony threat is real and can push desktop VR to the sidelines come end of the year.
