Niantic fixed a bug that prevented the few Pokemon Go Trainers that reached level 39 and higher from fighting in Gyms.

Earlier this month, Pokemon Go trainers who reached level 39 and higher found themselves locked out of gyms. Niantic apparently did not anticipate legit players reaching these high trainer levels so soon. The world's first Level 40 player Jimmy Pitts from Buffalo said on October 12 that he can't access gyms. Now 10 days later the issue has been fixed.

Jimmy Pitts shared on The SilphRoad sub-reddit: "Even though his glitch only effected less than 1% of the community, it has been confirmed fixed. Any one that was afraid of leveling to 39, don't worry any longer. I repeat you CAN interact with gyms at level 39 -40 again."

10 days is a very long time for getting a bug fixed. Especially if its server side. The number of affected Pokemon Go players is low, but these trainers are the core community. They are the power players and evangelists of the game. To have them wait 10 days for a bug fix is hard to understand.

Niantic is expected to be busy working on a major Pokemon Go update to be released before the end of the year. Upcoming new major features include Pokemon trading, one-on-one fights, more Pokemon evolutions and smartwatch support on Apple Watch and Android Wear.

This weekend the real-time Pokemon tracker FastPokeMap is going online again. The developers have found a way around the new encryption Niantic rolled out two weeks ago.

Pokemon Go launched July 6 amidst unprecedented hype. Pokemon Go has dropped dramatically in the number of players, but the games was so popular that the remaining user base is still huge and bigger than other popular mobile games. Pokemon Go had 15.4 million weekly active users according to a report early October. This is 4 times as many as Clash of Clans. Pokemon Go is also by far the fastest gaming app reach $600m in revenues. There is maybe a special Halloween Pokemon Go event.
