Experts have pointed out the real reason behind the appeal of Halloween.

The whole place will soon be swarming with children playing trick-or-treat with their neighborhood residents. Also blood-sucking vampires, wicked witches and spooky ghosts in white sheets will haunt every party and corner of the civilized world.

Halloween is about to come soon and everyone is ready to have some fun. The fear factor is definitely there but it is “fearfulness in a safe setting”. It is not often that mankind gets to flirt with horror short of watching slasher movies or enjoying thrilling roller coaster rides.

When ordinary people leading peaceful civilized lives of quiet desperation are able to feel the frisson of danger with a difference, they can get an adrenaline high.

The body’s hormones are given a boost and this living on the edge gets one high as a kite. Yet the fact that it is all make-belief means that there is clearly nothing harmful about it except maybe for those who are extremely sensitive.

The barrier that is present between civilization and barbarism or savagery is like the interface of the television when you are watching that movie called “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” on screen, according to MailOnline.

This brings us to the paradox that danger experienced in safe settings is a very good thing for one’s health. Like bungee jumping and parachuting, it gives one a sense of insecurity which almost sends chills up one’s spine.

Yet the fact that there is no clear danger from these sensation-seeking experiences means that they can be given the legitimacy and license they so deserve as means of harmless entertainment.

Halloween works on the same principle. The gross costumes and scary tactics employed at parties and events are engaged in for fun and do not actually signify reality. Therein lies their importance as remnants of pagan rituals that once used to carry some serious repercussions.

When individuals out for some good clean fun get their fear and disgust buttons pressed, they feel a sort of catharsis that leaves them purified of the overbearing nature of everyday life with its boring routines.

It is all done in good faith though and doesn’t mean that anyone is hurt or harmed in any manner. This artistic pretense and fake nature of the otherwise outrageous acts takes so many and holds them dangerously close to the edge of the cliff and pulls them back at the last moment (so to say in a metaphorical manner).

It is a time of rejoicing as both kids and adults get to bring their inner monster out into the open. Halloween is almost like the eating of spicy Thai food as a sensationalist maneuver by a person who normally eats bland food all year round.
