Highly Alcoholic Energy Drinks May Affect Adolescent Brains Like Cocaine
The number of highly caffeinated products has increased dramatically in the past few years. Among these products, highly caffeinated energy drinks are the most heavily advertised and purchased, which has resulted in increased incidences of co-consumption of energy drinks with alcohol. • Liquor and Energy Drinks are a Deadly Combination

It seems to be the case that liquor and energy drinks are a deadly combination. Drinking energy drinks mixed with alcohol are as bad for your brain as cocaine.

High caffeine drinks along with alcohol are a lethal mix. They cause changes to occur in the human brain that make one an addictive personality. A person becomes one who is a cocaine addict of sorts once he has combined the two drinks.

The side effects of this mixture cause one’s adulthood to be destroyed besides one’s adolescence. The reward centers of the brain are literally hijacked by this cocktail of sorts.

Energy drinks and alcohol when imbibed by mice caused changes that were deleterious. The same experiment was not performed in human beings for obvious ethical reasons.

Yet experiments with drug addicts show similar results so the scientists have a pretty good idea of what they are talking about. The energy drinks contain a lot of caffeine.

Sometimes it is 10 times that found in soda pop. These energy drinks are often marketed to adolescents. Yet very little is known about what effects these drinks have on the health of these teenagers. Especially in combination with alcohol they can go on to form a heady mixture.

The results of this study were published in a journal. The mice that were imbibing energy drinks in fact took to drinking alcohol with gusto and zest. This spelt great danger to the overall health of these mice.

When the mice began imbibing both alcohol and energy drinks, their brain patterns began to resemble those of cocaine addicts. The two beverages seem to combine to push the mice towards becoming hard drug addicts.

It is a question of neurochemistry. Also levels of a rare protein were detected in the blood of the mice. This protein is found in the bloodstream of humans who are addicted to cocaine and morphine.

When the drinks are imbibed individually, they do not cause these addictive behavioral repertoire at all. It is when you mix them that the genie of addiction and chaos is let loose from the bottle.

Later on the mice were not even relieved of the withdrawal symptoms despite their taking cocaine. This shows that the mixture of the two beverages is a devastating thing for body and mind.

It just destroys the self like the worst form of plague or mental illness. The brain structures of the mice are literally changed in such a manner that they go past the point of redemption.

The results of this study were published in the journal PLOS ONE.
