What is Apple’s MacBook Pro Touch Bar? How does it work and what can you do with it?

Apple’s announcement of the new MacBook Pros today has created much hype today. The new Touch Bar is truly innovative. It will change a lot as how we work on our computers. It may also be the last piece from Apple in the ’we don’t want a Touch screen laptop’ argument.

As what we have made of Apple’s demonstrations and videos, the Touch bar is a small multi Touch Retina Display. It is placed right above the main keyboard. It actually has the potential to change the way we operate.

It will change things from how we write an email or how we work on a complex video. As per the app you have opened your experience of the Touch bar will change. This has the potential to be huge. Below are some examples that some of the things which can be done with the Touch bar.

Accept And Reject Calls

You can control your FaceTime and iPhone calls. You can tap to accept or reject just like in a iOS.

Find Locations

When you are in Apple Maps, icons will come on the Touch Bar. When you tap on these icons you will search for locations.

Control Music

Audio Controls are improved with Touch bar. You can play, pause, skip etc.

Browse The Web

When in Safari the Touch bar will give quick access to bookmarks or even to buttons such as back and home. There is also an area which when tapped brings up the URL entry view.

Picture Editing

Pictures and videos can be edited in different photo and video apps.

Emojis

Emojis can be added Touch Bar can be customized.

Function Keys

Function keys can be accessed.

Siri

There is a dedicated Siri button

Third Party Apps

Third-party app developers can use Apple’s APIs in macOS Sierra to broaden the functionality of their apps for the Touch Bar.

Touch ID

The Touch Bar can’t go about without the mention of the Touch ID. It is not a strict part of the Touch bar but it is located close enough at the right most side of the Touch Bar. This Touch ID makes account authentication a very simple task.
