  • Complication due to Measles is Deadlier than it was Previously Thought to Be

A complication that often occurs due to measles is often deadlier than it was previously thought to be.

There is a deadly complication of measles and it happens to strike children. Every year many cases of this complication cause the parents of small children to get so worried that their lives become a sort of living hell.

The infection which is often fatal may actually be more commonplace than was previously thought. Vaccinations against this rogue form of killer measles have been made.

It is basically a terminal neurological disorder termed subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE). It was supposed that this disease occurred in one out of 1700 cases of measles.

The study that dealt with this had German children undere five years of age as its subjects. The novel study though looks at Californian children who got infected during an epidemic in 1990.

The rate of infection was found to be one in 1387. Thus one in 600 babies was likely to contract the fatal illness. It comes as a big shock for the medical establishment. The only solution to such complications of measles is better public health policies.

Vaccinations ought to be made common and also a whole herd of human beings being innoculated against the hazardous disease are the only solutions to this complex problem.

Thus those prone to catching measles and those who will go on to develop SSPE symptoms will both be saved from frustration and pain. The average age at which SSPE strikes is 12 years of age.

However, the full gamut runs from 3 to 35 years of age. These findings were presented for discussion at a seminar held recently. One of the cases that was discussed was that of a woman whose five month old baby contracted measles during a trip to Disneyland.

The mother of the infant was distraught and spoke of how she was stuck with this fear and constant state of apprehension about the health status of her baby for the next ten years. Measles vaccinations exist.

Those parents who refuse to have their babies vaccinated are playing Russian Roulette with the lives of their kids. The growth of the anti-vaccination movement, which is based on nothing but sheer ignorance of science and technology, is causing extreme harm to the cause of human welfare through medicine and life saving drugs.

The infectious disease that is measles has to be curbed in a ruthless manner. If we stop vaccinating today’s kids, we are playing with fire as far as the health of future generations is concerned.
