Sharp CEO Has Suggested iPhone 8 Will Most Likely Feature An OLED Display

Apple iPhone 8 will finally feature an OLED Display

The Japanese publication Nikkei has made a comeback with more interesting news. It first reported that there will be three versions of the iPhone 8. This time it has suggested that at least one of the versions will include an OLED display manufactured by Sharp.

The iPhone 8 is to come out on the 10th anniversary of Apple. Therefore the phone is expected to carry some unique and rather outstanding qualities. Apple is speculated to bring many serious design changes. This is also why we observe so many rumors before time.

It has long been rumored that Apple will make a shift from the current screens and will embrace OLED technology. In fact this is not the first time that we are hearing about a Sharp and Apple collaboration on an OLED model iPhone.

This time CEO Sharp, Tai Jeng wu has confirmed while addressing students at Tatung University that Apple has decided to move to OLED technology. Tai also discussed the Apple plans further and indicated his company doesn’t know if the OLED iPhones will be a hit or not.

He also said that Apple needed this acquisition of OLED technology as per the technological trends. Apart from stating the fact that Sharp will be providing Apple with the OLED screens, CEO Tai also suggested that the company was capable enough and has enough ability and infrastructure to manufacture the screen in the United States.

Apple currently uses poly-silicon (LTPS) screens. The OLED screens give sharper color contrast than the LTPS screens. OLED technology is extremely versatile too. This means developers can push the boundaries with curved or foldable screens. If Apple has really decided to adopt OLED technology we will wait to see how they approach it.
