  • Obesity is just as Deadly a Risk as Cancer

It has been found that obesity is just as deadly a risk as cancer. A new survey shows that Americans take obesity as seriously as cancer, and say it's an even bigger health threat than heart disease.

America leads the world as far as obesity statistics are concerned. In fact, it has become an even bigger threat than coronary heart disease and cancer.

Diet is to a large part involved in this disease epidemic and so is the incompetence of doctors to prescribe a more healthier prescription in the form of a salubrious lifestyle. Metabolism matters. As for diet and exercise, they do make a difference. Finally, the last option of bariatric surgery remains.

81% of Americans are worried about obesity. It has arrived on a par with cancer as a leading cause of death in Americans. Following these two top killers, diabetes, heart disease, mental issues and AIDS remain the other big ones on the scene.

Contracting these scourges is like being given a death sentence of sorts. Way back in 2006, the obesity epidemic had affected 36% of mature people. Today it is even more common. All are agreed upon the fact that obesity ultimately causes a series of complications that may end in death.

Even in people who have no other disease other than excess weight, the risk of death skyrockets. The problem with most Americans is that they take diet and exercise to be the sole preventative measures against obesity.

The medical establishment ought to be included in the discussion since by now we are sure that obesity is a disease with serious consequences. Diets don’t work because they are too boring and bland and often do not cause satiety.

As for exercise it may lend form to the body but it is not a good way of losing weight. Many people also think many times before going beneath the surgeon’s scalpel.

There are a range of treatments yet even in this advanced age and time, no proper cure for obesity lies in sight. Short of bariatric surgery, there is no solution. As for bariatric surgery, it is too invasive.

The rate of failure of those who try to conquer their obesity is 94%. This shows that it is no easy task to eliminate obesity. It is a complex and tricky disease. Furthermore, it ought to be conquered (if possible) in a multipronged manner.

As a life-threatening disease, it has now joined the ranks of cancer and CHD. Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease since bariatric surgery has some pretty bad side effects.

For now, the obesity epidemic (or should it be called pandemic) is showing no signs of abating. It will take no less than a medical miracle to offset this strange disease of postmodern times.
