iPhone 8 Plus Will Feature A Curved OLED Screen

The bigger iPhone8 will get a taste of a curved OLED display for the first time next year

The Nikkei Review is constantly spilling the beans about iPhone 8 these days. A new report states that officials including the CEO of Sharp and another senior executive of the company have a given a confirmation that the current LTPS technology used in iPhone screens will be replaced with OLED technology.

A remark was made by the CEO of Sharp at a recent graduation ceremony at the Tatung University. Tai Jeng-wu hinted that Sharp was capable enough to manufacture OLED screens in the United States. It has all the required sources and ability.

He further went on to say that he isn’t sure if the OLED inclusion in the iPhone would be a hit but Apple certainly needs to make a shift to OLED technology. He remarked that if Apple did not take up this step there was no room for innovation.

The shift is the best in Apple’s interest. Apple’s growth has been slowing down lately. Apple cannot afford to release phones further which have minimal hardware changes. Tai has expressed his company is committed to develop OLED technology for the iPhone display.

He did not give a date as to when iPhone will start using this technology. If sharp actually pulls this off Samsung will have a rival to its Super AMOLED display. A previous Report given by Nikkei Review stated that Apple has planned for three iPhone models rather than its usual two.

The premium model is expected to have a curved OLED panel. The report also stated that the iPhone 8 could also include the chassis of iPhone 4 but with a glass slab on the back. With this inclusion Apple might add wireless charging to the future iPhone.
