Facebook lost almost all of its mobile gaming to iOS and Android, so it has to make a big push to get into playing somewhere else - like on a computer. Today they launched Gameroom, a Windows desktop gaming platform. The platform itself has been in beta for a few months, but now it is in beta build for all developers under its official name.

The app is openly available for download on Windows 7 and up, according to TechCrunch.

Gameroom allows users to play ported mobile, web, and native Gameroom games on a free PC app that doesn't have the Newsfeed distractions.

It will go up against Valve's Steam platform, which has 125 million active users. It will also have to reach out to developers so that they can get good games on their platform.

Facebook used to have a lot of revenue from gaming, like when it worked with Zynga on games like Farmville and even Candy Crush, but they have all ditched the platform for mobile gaming.

Facebook first revealed the existence of the Games Arcade in May. The official launch will be soon, though we don't have a definite date yet. It seems that it will coincide with any changes they have to make.

Don't underestimate the appeal Facebook is going to have.
