China’s space program has gotten a stimulus via a novel heavy rocket launch.

China launched its new Long March-5 heavy rocket recently. A payload has been sent into orbit around the earth. The nation that has such a large population is taking giant steps towards the advancement of its space program.

This launch came after China began its lengthiest manned space mission. That took place 30 days ago. Two astronauts were sent into outer space and they spent a month’s duration aboard a space lab. All this is part and parcel of a larger plan to build a space station by 2022, according to Reuters.

The rocket which was launched was larger than previous Long March rockets. It took off for the empyrean heights on Thursday and the venue was a launch pad in Hainan. This launch has brought China into the vanguard of the world news.

As far as rocket-carrying capacity is concerned, China has come out on top. This is a great day for China since it has made the shift from a minor player to a major player in the space stakes.

25 tons of payload was sent into low earth orbit. As for the remaining 14 tons, they were sent to geostationary transfer orbit. This shows us that the load capacity of this rocket is 2.5 times greater than any previous model.

Using this heavy-lift rocket, China can create a solid manned space station and also send lunar and Mars missions. The advancement of China’s space program will continue apace. The officials in Beijing insist that it is for peaceful reasons alone.

As for the USA, it has been keeping an eye on China’s space program. US officials keep reiterating that China wants to overtake other lesser nations in the region via its space program. How much truth there is to this statement is anyone’s lucky guess.

However, the fact of the matter is that China is still a small-time player when you compare it with such giants as the USA and Russia. China’s Jade Rabbit moon rover landed on the lunar surface in 2013.

Yet technical issues started to plague the rover. Also Chang’e 3 made a soft landing on the moon along with the Jade Rabbit moon rover. These were the first attempts to land on the moon since 1976.

SpaceX and Blue Origin, both alternative space agencies in the USA, are using reusable rockets to bring down the costs of space travel. China still has a long way to go when you compare its space agency with SpaceX and Blue Origin.
