Saturday Night Live: Benedict Cumberbatch Looks Hot and Funny
  • Benedict Cumberbatch Takes to the Funny Side Hosting Saturday Night Live

Benedict Cumberbatch delivers some down to Earth and funny sketches while hosting the Saturday Night Live

It was the last show before this year’s presidential election and SNL decided to lay off the political onslaught with Kate McKinnon and Alec Baldwin. Both actors gave a cold opening to the audience which expressed the exasperation of the American nation with the whole election scenario. They urged America to vote on the Election Day to determine what kind of country they want to live in.

It was a Cumberbatch haul for the rest of the show. He was candid to let his roles’ similarity of playing a genius mix with comedy to deliver some decent and funny sketches. Many fans agree that they were not over the top funny and the episode was less humorous that this month’s other installments but this was the actor’s debut on the show and we can say he did pretty well.

For his opening, he reminded everyone that he was glad t host the last show in America as we know it. He said that the he knew that the political situation in the U.S. was very intense and the British usually drink in these kind of times. He reminded everyone that his movie Doctor Strange was out and he then continued to say that he was going to do spend the opening with the American favourite past time, bragging.

He then went into a musical number with a seriously oncoming Leslie Jones. He mentioned his Oscar nomination, his CBE title from the Queen of England, his roles of playing a genius in most of his career, He also cleared that he’d rather that his fans called themselves Cumberpeople or Cumber-collective instead of fan proclaimed, ‘Cumberbitches’.

He said that they also write fan fiction about him that clearly disturbed him. He sang that his leading ladies loved him including Knightley, McAdams and a bald Tilda Swinton for which McKinnon appeared as a bald Tilda Swinton. They both did a little riff then to end the performance.

In another sketch inspired by the Apple ‘1984’ ad of conformity, Benedict appears in all black apparel with sleek shades. He tells the guy telling everyone that they are supposed to sit on toilets to look stupid and foolish. Benedict says that he’s wrong and introduces a new Kohler toilet on which he could sit backwards.

He takes off his pants and demonstrates. The system fails as it is proclaimed that this changes everything is the motto of the trailer. It is called the Koohl Toilet. the Koohl Toilet has a shape and design that brings confidence to the toilet.

The next sketch got us all in twists for its realism. In a game show set, Beck Bennett get Vanessa Byers, Aidy Bryans and Benedict Cumberbatch as unknowing contestants who had been invited by Beck to discover, ‘Why is Benedict Cumberbatch Hot?’ Benedict looks dismayed as he says, “Oh Beck…” Beck explains that he was sick of his colleagues and crew ladies swooning over the actor since he had been confirmed to host the show.

As a guy he wants to figure out why. He asks the contestants why they think Cumberbatch is hot. Vanessa cannot explain why she thinks he’s hot and reverts the question in mumbling. Aidy is more insistent to showcase animal noises to demonstrate why she thought the actor was hot.

When asked about the question, Benedict was hesitant to answer and says that people tell him that he sometimes look like a hammerhead shark or a Lizard man and he personally thought that he looked like Sid the Sloth from Ice Age. He said that it didn’t matter because Glamour magazine titled him one of “The Sexiest Man Alive” so.

Beck was shocked. He asked a follow up question in Benedict’s ear which sounded suspiciously like inquiry about the size of his genitals. He admitted that they were average. Beck then had Vanessa and Aidy choose between goofy photos of Benedict and hot photos of himself. They still chose Benedict. Benedict then goes on to tell Beck that it was unfair that he had chosen great photos of himself and goofy ones of Benedict.

Furthermore, he thought Beck was really funny and a great guy to hang out with. By that time he had absolutely won over Beck and he understood ‘Why is Benedict Cumberbatch Hot?’

His next sketch was as a PA having a heart to heart with a completely clueless sophomore, Chad. In his character, he is conflicted about his own sexuality. Chad seems oblivious to his rambling of being obligated by his father to marry a wealthy girl and get tenure as a professor. Chad flees but he calls him back to apologize for his confessions.

He says that Chad would forget everything and not let it taint their relationship. He says that Chad had taught him an invaluable lesson, that he should not hide anymore and live his life.

In the next sketch, Benedict and Mikey Day played male strippers who continued to grind on her lifeless face. They were soon joined by Chicago Cubs’ Dexter Fowler, David Ross, and Anthony Rizzo showed up as themselves to do a little twerking and gyrating of their own.

In the last sketch, Benedict played a Criss Angel inspired character with Cecily Strong steakhouse having dinner with friends. Dubbed as the weakest sketch of the night, it put an end to the night’s show with a superb performance by Solange.
