A Soft Drink a Day Raises Diabetes Risk by 50%

Apparently, a soft drink a day allows diabetes a way into your body.

Just a single can of soda pop imbibed on a regular basis can increase your chances of contracting diabetes by 50%. This is a sad and dismal fact and the sooner we digest it, the better our collective health as a global village would be.

Those who took as little as a single can of Coke or Pepsi (or any other soft drink for that matter) per day ended up facing a lifetime of pre-diabetes. This nascent illness later on developed into even more deadlier manifestations of the disease.

The blood sugar levels rose over time and within a few years the soft drink imbibers faced the onslaught of a 50% greater chance of developing full-fledged diabetes, according to DailyMail.

If this condition is detected at an early stage, it can be offset via a good diet and vigorous exercise not to mention other lifestyle changes. Yet if it is neglected, type 2 diabetes is the usual result which is not a good sign. Among some of the fatal consequences of type 2 diabetes is cardiac arrest.

Sugary drinks can cause insulin resistance. That is where things start to go very wrong. Once the blood becomes glucose-infested several problems start to occur since this is a disease of the metabolism.

The worst offenders as far as diabetes is concerned are liquid calories especially fizzy drinks. These are something that the market is filled with. Enter any superstore and you see rows upon rows of soft drinks.

They are playing havoc with the bodies of children, teenagers and adults. About 1685 middle-aged people were monitored over a period of 14 years. They did not have diabetes in the beginning of the survey.

Yet they consumed sugary drinks on a regular basis. Those who drank the most quantities per weekly basis suffered the most from diabetes in the long run.

It seems sugar is the ultimate culprit when it comes to the diseases of civilization. All these degenerative diseases that cause a ruined metabolism and an old age that is only relieved by a death that comes as a welcome relief from the pain and suffering, are a result of one ingredient in our diets: white sugar.

An overall restructuring of one’s lifestyle is necessary if one wants to reverse this trend towards type 2 diabetes. While fizzy drinks may seem harmless to many, in fact they are very insidious agents of ten thousand maladies. They are at best avoided since to regularly consume them is to invite a host of illnesses into one’s life.
