A recent application from Samsung for a patent showed some unique ideas that they have for a futuristic phone design. The South Korean manufacturer might not have the same idea after their recent problems with battery explosions and recalls, but they are working on something unique. The idea was filed in a patent with the Korean Intellectual Property Office for a foldable smartphone.

The application was originally found by Dutch website Galaxy Club.

The document shows that Samsung wants to make a narrow device with a screen that bends and folds like an old-school flip phone would. The device was called one that would be able to fold or unfold semi-automatically. The patent also said that there will be a secondary display that will activate when you fold the device.

The patent adds weight to the rumor that bendable OLED screens are coming to phones. The trend of bendable phones has emerged in line with the smartwatch trend.

Lenovo has also proposed a bendable phone, doing so at the Tech World 2016 event.

Once again, there is no word whether or not the phones will continue on or Samsung will try to go to a more conventional phone.
