Canadian singer, songwriter and composer Leonard Cohen passes away in L.A. at the age of 82

Hallelujah! Probably one of the most iconic pop culture song to be ever written by an equally iconic and extraordinary songwriter and singer Leonard Cohen who passed away at 82.

Leonard’s death was confirmed by Sony Music Canada on his official Facebook page in an official statement which said, "It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away.

"We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief."

The cause of death and the exact time were not mentioned. Leonard felt he was ready to go. In an interview he gave earlier this year, the singer admitted that he was ready to die. He just hoped that it did not hurt.

Looks like he passed away doing what he loved as his son Adam said in a statement that his father passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles with the knowledge that he had completed what he felt was one of his greatest records.

He added that Cohen was writing up until his last moments with his unique brand of humor, according to RollingStone.

With a career spanning over 50 years, Cohen was perhaps one of the most influential singer, songwriters among his generation alongside Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and fellow Canadian Joni Mitchell.

He was known for his haunting bass voice, nylon-stringed guitar patterns and Greek-chorus backing vocals. His songs were evocative that addressed a multitude of content including love and hate, sex and spirituality, war and peace, ecstasy and depression.

His most coveted song is "Hallelujah" which have been covered by numerous artists. His other notable tracks are numerous and deserve equal fame, including "Bird on a Wire," "Suzanne," "Dance Me to the End of Love," "I’m Your Man," and "So Long, Marianne."
