Black Friday Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR Headset Deals Are Weak

Over 50 Black Friday 2016 ads are released. There are ads for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive Virtual Reality headsets.

The Sony PlayStation VR has stormed onto the market on October 13. The $499.99 PSVR Launch Bundle has sold out and PS4 owners can only the $399.99 PSVR Core is available select retailers.

Sony does not have a supply issue with the PlayStation VR as the Core is still available and consumers can get the PSVR or the Holidays. The Sony takeover of home VR market seems not to bother Oculus and HTC.

Both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive have not been offered at a discount since launch. The Oculus Rift sells for $599. The Oculus Rift including the new Oculus touch controllers (ship December) sells for $798. The HTC Vive for $799.99 including VR controllers.

Over 50 Black Friday 2016 ads are released less than two weeks ahead of Black Friday 2016. The GameStop Black Friday 2016 Ad lists the HTC Vive, but only at its regular price of $799.99.

Best Buy advertises the Oculus Rift for $599.99 in their Black Friday ad and there is actually a deal, but it is kind of weak. When you buy the Oculus Rift for $599.99, your receive $100 store credit in the Oculus Store to download new worlds, new VR games, and new experiences. It is something, but it is not an aggressive deal that defends PC VR against console VR. Especially in the light of low-cost Microsoft's VR headset announcement for Spring.

HTC and Oculus are at a bad spot, but they do not use the Black Friday sales to try to gain marketshare. The Microsoft Store Black Friday 2016 Sale is the last hope for decent Black Friday deals on the Vive and Rift. This is weird as Microsoft is soon competing with these VR products, but they also sell Windows 10.

Update: The Microsoft Black Friday 2016 deals are revealed and include deals on the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive. Each come with a $100 gift code. This is not an incredible Black Friday deal, but that's how good as they get this year.
