  • Donald Trump may Prove to be the Biggest Opponent of Environmentalism

Donald Trump will assume the role of POTUS on January 20th. He may actually prove to be the biggest opponent of environmentalism there ever was which is indeed cause for worry.

The new POTUS calls global warming a hoax. He is not a friend of the environmentalists.

With Trump as the leader of the Free World, these last few years of intense global warming may give way to even more sultry temperatures during summers in the future. This is a cause for concern among those who want a leaner, greener America.

While environmentalism has come of age, with people like Trump, it may face a major setback. Trump actually says that global warming is a ploy cooked up by the Chinese to engage in some industrial sabotage against the US of A.

Trump has other plans such as leaving the platform of the Paris Agreement on climate change, according to The Guardian. One finds such anachronistic views and policies truly a sign of extreme ignorance in today’s otherwise educated and conscious world where awareness is spreading like wildfire.

The Paris Agreement is the first such pact between so many countries. To leave it high and dry would be a disastrous move. Yet that is exactly what Trump plans on doing.

Apparently, the Paris Agreement was signed by President Obama and no participating country could renege from its binding conditions for three years. Trump is adamant that he will not ruin the technological future of his country by kowtowing to the Paris Agreement, according to BusinessInsider.

That is the way it is and you cannot convince him otherwise. Over a hundred countries have jumped on the Paris Agreement bandwagon. Yet with the USA backing out, it is anyone’s guess what some of the other countries which also reluctantly entered into the accord will do.

Among some of the deleterious effects of climate change are rising sea levels along coastal areas, hot summers that cause misery and lassitude and last but not least desertification.

While withdrawing from the agreement could take upto four years, Trump has the choice of lessening the slashing of emissions.

Since there are no penalties for those countries that do not meet their goals of cutting back on emissions, Trump will be utilizing this loophole in international law to have his way and satisfy his itch for self-determination.

All environmentalists are pretty sad at the results of the 2016 elections in the USA. Had Hillary Clinton come to office, the environmentalists would have had a field day, according to Alternate.

Yet such was not to happen seeing the temper of the times. The Paris Agreement has indeed received a major blow with the election of Trump, and it will probably not be able to recover from this setback now.

Yet there are signs that the world may go ahead with its agenda despite the most powerful nation in the world parting ways with the majority.

The level of awareness built until now on a worldwide level cannot be erased from the meme-sphere by a mere stroke of a pen. It will carry on thriving despite the occasional setbacks.

One man’s opposition can only influence the global trends to a certain degree. Even if that person happens to be a linchpin in the playing field of world politics, his domain of duty is at best limited.

Trump wants to have the EPA become a defunct agency. There will be opposition to his ideas since the forces that are a part of the American Zeitgeist and global culture will not take it sitting down.

So while the world has a lot to fear from Trump, maybe some of the fears are unfounded since his power is not limitless. What will change is the emphasis on a pure, pristine environment since that is a long term goal and it can only be striven for and never reached.

As long as there exists even a single piece of complicated technology on earth, pollution is here to stay. You cannot reverse a process that has been here since eons in a matter of months.

Among Trump’s cabinet members that will now be ruling the roost on environmental policy are such people as Sarah Palin.

Besides Sarah Palin, there is Forrest Lucas. These cronies of Trump will see to it that such sectors as the oil, gas and coal industries have their heyday. As for completely doing away with the EPA, Trump will not be able to do this with impunity.

Some institutions have deep roots and the uproar caused by abolishing them would be too much (even for a tycoon like Trump).  Myron Ebell is another one of Trump’s insiders.

The Republicans are definitely back in power and such issues as environmentalism and the welfare state will take a hit or two. Yet on the whole things will continue as they did before and everyone will take things normally as they come.
