  • Volkswagen Admits that a number of Audi models have Emission Cheating Software

The Audi software has the tendency to distort the emission in tests.

It was revealed earlier this week by Volkswagen that Audi’s automatic transmission cars have technology that can cheat on the emission readings. Audi’s parent company Volkswagen is still facing charges and allegations against the emission scandal which came up earlier this year.

Later on the company was convicted which led to heavy fines and major recalls in the history of VW. The company recently announced that its luxury brand Audi is facing allegations against the cheating software to be present in the recent models too.

A German newspaper Bild am Sonntag (via Reuters) published a week ago that California Air Resources Board had discovered a cheating software in an old Audi model. This model is not related to the models that were unveiled in last year’s cheating scandal by company.

The software which was discovered by CARB was the one that showed lowered amount of carbon dioxide CO2 emissions when it was measured. It was discovered that the software was used from many years in models that were running in Europe and America.

According to them the cars use Adaptive Shift program that leads to lowered emission when the car is started however when the car is driven on high speed, the emission is increased as well which is ignored earlier on.

Volkswagen had to recall and reinstall the software in the first emission scandal that included almost 11 million cars. These were all diesel cars. The cheating software was installed in different Audi Volkswagen and Porsche models.

The company hasn’t revealed the models that are affected by this new emission cheating software. However according The Wall Street Journal, these include the top ten sedans and sporty utility vehicles.
