  • Efforts to Stem Climate Change will Go on Despite Trump’s Rhetoric

It so seems to be the case that the worldwide efforts to stem climate change will go on despite Trump’s rhetoric.

The climate change envoy from the USA spoke at the conference held in Morocco on Tuesday. According to Jonathan Pershing, the efforts at limiting global warming will continue in an unimpeded manner.

This is so despite the President-elect, Donald Trump coming to office soon. Many ministers and heads of state attended the conference on climate change. They heard the words of Pershing loud and clear.

Pershing assured the delegates gathered in the august audience that a single man could not derail the efforts that had been built over generations. This was so even if that man happened to be a super-rich guy who liked to have his own way like Trump.

The Paris Treaty was resilient enough to withstand Trump’s rhetoric. Heads of state come and go, but the global coalition to sustain a pristine environment will not be stopped dead in its tracks.

Trump’s team will be driving the policy in Washington soon, according to BBC. However, the transition from Obama’s policies to the implementation of Trump’s agenda would take time. It won’t happen overnight.

There was some sense of relief in this. Besides, Trump could not go against public opinion no matter how much power he possessed owing to his position as POTUS.

The next four years were crucial in this regard. Donald Trump had vowed during his campaign trail that he would have the USA back out of the Paris Agreement. He also promised that he would withhold payment of cash to the UN regarding climate change.

Whether he delivers in this regard remains to be seen. Yet the fact remains that the opposition of the lobbyists and senate against him will ensure that he does not have his way everytime a decision is to be put to the vote.

Myron Ebell is to head the EPA. Handpicked by Trump, this man may create a few hurdles along the way. Pershing though said that the Paris Agreement was durable and resilient since it had the moral support of so many other nations besides the USA.

The ambitions of scores of environmentalists and activists would not go to waste, Pershing assured the delegates in Morocco. Europe too expected the US to remain steadfast in its fidelity to the climate change pact.
