The final chapter of the American Horror Story ties up loose ends and reveals the true survivor of Roanoke

We thought that there could be no more to the Roanoke Nightmare after Lee Harris survived the onslaught of the blood moon in the Chapter 9 of American Horror Story Roanoke Chapter 9. At this point, no one expected to see all the faces of the entire series in one place but that is how the episode started.

The episode opens with a Paley Fest, a Comic-Con like event in which the fans of the season one of My Roanoke Nightmare are dressed garishly to celebrate the success of the show. The cast is called out for a Q&A session and we get to see a lot of people inspired by the show.

Shelby says that she found her portrayal on the show cathartic while Audrey, Rory and Dominic are all hogging the audience for attention. A woman from Britain however calls out to Lee and tells her that she inspired her because she know what it felt like to be said things about.

She is the woman that we see almost one year later on a video addressing the viewers that Lee was innocent in the entire Return to Roanoke disaster. The next address is from the remaining Polk son who wanted to take Audrey’s teeth.

He says that Lee took his family and he wants to murder her in the name of justice. At this point we find out that the footage of Return to Roanoke was released as the second installment of the show. Everyone knows what went on in the house.

We then see Lee’s court case in which the DA wants to prosecute her for the murder of the Polks, Monet (whose sister sits in court every trial) and others. DA is determined to convict Lee for the murders in the second season.

The Jury believes however that Lee acted under duress and under the influence of the drugs that the Polks gave her. When she is acquitted, the DA prosecutes her for the murder of her husband Mason.

We get a whole low down of Lee’s life through a cheesy scandal TV show Crack’d. During the trial, we find out a surprising witness in Flora who claims that she saw her mother kill her father while she was hiding away with Priscilla.

Lee makes her lawyer question Flora’s story in light of ghost stories which seems like Flora making the entire thing up. She is acquitted once more but loses Flora in the process to Mason’s parents. We then find out that she has penned a bestselling book and works as a motivational speaker.

She agrees to talk to one of the AHS previous characters, Lana Winters. During their conversation, Lana confronts Lee about why she agreed to talk to her only and Lee answers that it is because of Lana’s own life experience.

We remember that Lana went through hell in the second season of the show Asylum in the Briarcliff Mental Institute where she was raped and tortured. She lived and escaped to expose the Briarcliff and even killed her own illegitimate son years later. Lee says that the only thing that has kept her going has been her wish to be with Flora.

She appeals through camera to Flora to give her a chance. Lana then informs Lee that Flora is missing and asks if Lee abducted her again. Lee starts to panic and go to find her daughter when the remaining Polk shows up to kill her. Lana stands between them and tries to talk him down before he knocks her out. This give the police enough time to put him down.

Back at Roanoke, we find out that another show Spirit Chasers. They are accompanied by Ashley Gilbert, the actor who played Cricket in My Roanoke Nightmare. They have the equipment to monitor paranormal activity and just as they are starting, Lee shows up at the house.

She tells them that she is there looking for Flora and warns them to get off the land before it’s too late. It gets too late. Although we see first through thermal detection of how ghosts move around undetected. They all die including two cops who come out to check on the house.

We see the police camped out around the house claiming that it is a hostage situation. William van Henderson playing Dr. Elias Cunningham in My Roanoke Nightmare and Lana Winters are approached to speak about Lee. Lana agrees that she and Lee are alike in many ways and whatever she was doing, she was doing for Flora.

This comes at a very critical juncture for the next part when we find out that Flora returned to the Roanoke mansion for Priscilla. She wants to protect her ghost friend from the Butcher. Lee volunteers instead to protect Priscilla by staying with her as a ghost and also burning the house down.

That is exactly what happens. Flora sees the ghosts of Lee and Priscilla as she is in a police car. At the end we see the blood moon and the settlers approaching the scene leaving us speculating whether Flora makes it out alive.
