BMW and Baidu Self-Driving Car Partnership End

The pact on self-driving vehicles initiated by BMW and Baidu has been dissolved. It just could not be maintained in the long run.

BMW which is a German automaker and Baidu which happens to be a Chinese Internet conglomerate have decided to put an end to their joint collaboration regarding self-driving cars.

This fact was confirmed by executives from both firms. Specifically, Baidu is currently said to be searching for new partners in its ventures in progress.

One of the main men at Baidu spoke of how the company was now using cars from Ford’s Lincoln in its US testing drive. He however resisted divulging any more information. 

He did say though that his company was open to any partners jumping on the bandwagon. In fact, it was a fact that the executives of Baidu were in talks with several other potential parties.

The leading technology companies and their leaders contend that the vehicles of the future times will be able to drive on the roads under their own volition.

They will not need to be driven or steered by a passenger. This will virtually revolutionize the car industry. It is indeed a game changer on the scene.  

Such companies as Alphabet’s Google and Delphi will invest to the limits of their coffers in this technology. Meanwhile, coming back to BMW and Baidu. The two companies called off their cooperation bid, according to Reuters.

It had involved testing cars in China and the United States. There were actually differences of opinion regarding research venues and methodologies.

Both the progressive ideologies and the ideational structures of both companies were vastly different from one another. That got in the way in the end. After BMW and Baidu made the automatic overtaking capability in the vehicles, they suddenly decided to part ways.  

It was an amicable split without any hard feelings on either end. BMW however does plan on the expansion of its R&D teams in China. They will be looking into autonomous driving on an intensive basis.

Partial partnership will however continue between BMW and Baidu. This will be regarding high definition maps. They are a very important component of autonomous cars.

Baidu plans on selling autonomous cars within two years time. By the time 2021 arrives, this will be a commonplace occurrence. While the territory the two companies occupy is one and the same, their paths are a bit different.
