More than 1 million Americans are expected to hit the road over the holiday weekend

The AAA just announced we are going to see the worst traffic over the Thanksgiving weekend than all year round. The announcement was part of the annual Thanksgiving Day travel report.

The reason for such an abysmal road condition is due to rising employment, low gas prices and a strong economy. It is expected more than one million Americans will be on the road over the weekend.

The Thanksgiving traffic is expected to be worse than previously seen last year. 2016 could also be the busiest year in terms of roads during Thanksgiving since 2007.

This year fuel has been particularly cheap in America with gas prices holding at close to $2 per gallon. So far Americans have saved $28 billion in revenue on pumps.

Similarly more than 48.7 million American are expected travel 50 miles or more from their homes over the weekend. 89% of those travelling will take their own cars on the road to visit with friends and family this Thanksgiving.

According to Google Maps the best time to get out of home before the holiday would be the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Since Sunday has already passed the New York Times used the Google Maps to come with the best and worst times travel to and from large metropolitan areas.

This increase in traffic over the holiday weekend is also a gloomy omen of traffic accidents. So far 2016 has already been particularly deadly, with traffic accident deaths rising 10% since the last year, according to AutoBlog.

Therefore to the 48.7 million Americans expected to hit the road over the Thanksgiving weekend the best piece of advice for safety is to leave early, drive slow and vigilantly.
