  • US Transportation Office is looking for Autonomous Car Provider Proving Grounds

The Transportation office just released an official statement about the autonomous car proving. The U.S. Department of Transportation actually launched a competition to identify proving grounds for self-driving cars development.

The self-driving technology is not fully developed yet. Most of the companies are still working on it. Tesla is trying to bring the technology up on the front in the upcoming few months.

However it will still take some time in order to finalize the technology by governments and states. The US Department of Transportation has asked for autonomous vehicle developers to work in order to prove grounds for the technology.

The Transportation secretary Anthony Foxx just stated on the official website that they are looking for various companies to come forward and compete with each other in order to endure the reliability for the process.

The website also stated that the department will select the Automation Proving Ground Pilot Program in which multiple sites will be selected all around the country. The companies will be welcomed over there to test the vehicles with open arms.

The proposals are due December 2019, while the chosen facilities will be opened by January 1st, 2018. It is also confirmed that the American Center for Mobility will be submitting a proposal. This was confirmed by CEO John Maddox of the American Center for Mobility.

The basic purpose of this facility will be to design, test and validate the autonomous service. Different companies will be allowed to test the technology. The construction of the center began this week and will be completed in an estimated amount of $80 million, according to AutoCar.

The transportation department is going for this kind of planning in order to make the autonomous driving experience purely safe and sound for public before it is formally launched. The secluded research based area for the purpose will ensure the correct validation and correction of the autonomous system.
