The Xiaomi Mi Mix Is Here

The Xiaomi Mi Mix phone has exceeded other smartphones in terms of popularity mainly because of its edgeless design. While other phones diverted their energy towards cameras and chipsets Xiaomi chose to focus on a great design. Xiaomi’s efforts on the design paid off. Just days after the premiere of the device the phone was all over the internet.

A lot of people were talking about it and Mi Mix managed to get its hands on some good reviews as well. The phone has a gigantic screen, a piezoelectric speaker, an ultrasonic proximity sensor and a great hardware. When observed in reality Mi Mix has a great design. However the mirror finish could have been substituted with a matte surface.

However in the premium category the ceramic does a good job too. You will also be amazed when you switch on the Mi Mix and the MUI is booted for the first time. Even though you might have an idea of how the images will appear you are still left spell bound. The edge to edge screen also does not let you take your eyes off the phone.

Xiaomi had announced the phone 91.3% screen to body ratio. Such a value had never been afloat before. Most of us didn’t buy it. When we did math based on the screen diagonal we concluded the screen to body ratio to be short of Xiaomi’s claim. Our calculation however did not go quite well with the fans of the Xiaomi phone.

The reality is you are bound to be mislead by Xiaomi’s official picture. The designers got too excited and even hid the tiny 2mm display borders in the official pictures. However now that the phone has been released we can clear up the confusion. After taking a photograph of the Xiaomi we used Photoshop to extract the precise size of the phone.

A simple histogram tool was then used to calculate the surface area. The screen to body ratio came out to be 84.72% just as we had predicted. The same results were also obtained by the old fashioned ruler and calculator method too. Upon further investigation we concluded that Xiaomi’s calculation of 90% was just a marketing tactic.

If you count the thin borders of the screen you do reach 91%. However that would suggest the screen to be 6.59 inches when it is only 6.4 inches in reality. At the end of the day the percentage of the screen to body ratio does not matter. It all comes down to the amazing phone Xiaomi has given to us.
