A novel intelligent sock has been created that will prevent diabetic foot.

Siren Care has made a pair of smart socks that help prevent diabetic foot among type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients. They employ sensors to measure inflammation and any injuries in diabetic patients.

The co-founder of the company was using biomass in order to aid in the growth of skin that had suffered injuries. The issue at the center of the debate was diabetic foot. Diabetes patients often have foot swelling that can lead to a number of complications later on.

These include infection and possible amputation as a last ditch stands against the cruel disease. The watchword here is early detection. These socks contain internal sensors that detect any issues that may arise with the passing time.

In case of diabetic foot, the same care has to be taken of the feet as is taken of the face on a daily basis. These socks are not the only wearable devices on the market, according to TechCrunch.

There are also wireless shoe inserts that track diabetes and even boots designed for this sole purpose. However, boots are unwieldy and socks are too close to the skin. A foot pad in the boot may be more realistic in the long run.

Yet the socks make sense too. They have sensors inlaid in their textile material. Any inflammation that may show up on the foot is then displayed on the app on your smartphone. When the sensors in the socks detect a rise in temperature, they alert the diabetic patient regarding the imminent danger.

Even such minor irritants that could become complicated later on such as a shoelace tucked into the shoe will be something that will be brought into the knowledge of the patient.

Even though these are wearable technologies, they don’t have to be charged at all. The socks are furthermore only in “on” mode when the wearer has them on his feet.

Otherwise they are in “off” mode. The socks can also be cleaned in the washing machine. A number of sensors will be added in the mix in the future times. Other smarter textiles could be the order of the day in the times to come.

Siren Care Smart Socks are available for pre-order.
