Stardew Valley is one of the top games around today, especially if you look at ratings. It is simple to learn, has a ton of crossover appeal between the masses, and it isn't one of those games you can just beat and move on - you have to continually play. Now, Kotaku is reporting that the Nintendo Switch will get access to the game, in a somewhat shocking twist.

Eric Barone is the developer behind this indie farming classic. He created one of the most popular games of the year on a whim, and many portals have been competing to get a piece of the pie. Now, he has announced that he will be abandoning the Wii U port of Stardew Valley and instead turn his focus to developing a Nintendo Switch version.

"Looking at Wii U and the current gaming landscape, we made the difficult choice to shift our development efforts to creating a version for Nintendo Switch," Barone said. He did mention that he is extremely committed to getting Stardew Valley onto Nintendo, and that at this point, Switch is what makes the most sense.

For those who can't wait for a console edition of the game, Stardew Valley will be out for the Xbox One on December 14, 2016. Playstation 4 users will get the game on December 13 (US) and December 14 (Europe).
