  • Getting a Brazilian Wax in Hollywood may lead to a Four Times Greater Risk of contracting STDs

It is being said that getting a Brazilian wax in Hollywood may lead to a four times greater risk of contracting Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

Waxing, shaving and trimming pubic hair may lead to a greater risk of contracting STDs. In fact, the risk goes up by four times the normal rate in society. Any type of pubic trimming leads to a chance of picking up an STI by up to 80%.

The problem is that waxing and grooming cause microtears in the skin of that particular region of the body. This leads to a greater chance of transmitting such diseases as HPV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and HIV.

The study involved 7500 people between the ages of 18 and 65. They were subject to excessive grooming practices and treatments such as Hollywood waxing not to mention Brazilian waxing which goes the whole hog.

The sharp rise of such beauty industry practices has also led to an increase in STDs. A large number of women in Ireland less than 50 years of age are into such risky treatments. Many of them suffer from inflammation and irritation in that region of the body.

Also the skin is damaged as a result. There is only so much wear and tear that this semi-permeable membrane can take. It finds fending off infections more and more difficult.

Viral infections thus get a chance of spreading to the pubic region of many females. HPV and genital warts are common occurrences linked to shaving below the belt.

Another viral infection which bears a close resemblance to chicken pox spreads along the lines which have been shaved or waxed. Also folliculitis can occur which is indeed very painful. This involves an inflammation of the hair follicles which can then only be treated with an anti-bacterial cream.

Those who have a tendency of shaving in that region are often subject to ingrown hair. The experts have advised people not to wax or shave down there since to do so would be detrimental to health.

People who undergo this treatment are also more likely to be sexually active so the risks are doubled and quadrupled automatically, according to a new study published in BMJ.

Besides sexual relations, the tools of grooming may be infected thereby increasing the chances of contracting these nasty STDs. Finally, risky sexual behaviors also increase the chances of getting infected. So care is essential here.
