NES Classic "Pre-Order" Started at ThinkGeek

ThinkGeek just started to list the $59.99 NES Classic online.

ThinkGeek has started to list the Nintendo NES Classic Edition on thinkgeek.com on Dec. 7. Customers need to add the NES to their wish list for a chance to purchase from the limited stock of NES Classic the retailer obtained. This soft "pre-order" needs to filed by Dec. 12, 10am EST.

On Monday Dec. 12, Timmy will begin to randomly select batches of fans who have this item on their Wish List and email them a unique code and link to buy it. This code will be good for 24 hours. If the selected customers don't use the code within 24 hours, the chance goes back in the mix to let other eager fans have a shot.

Customers who miss the Wishlist reservation will not have a chance to purchase the NES Classic on ThinkGeek once the sale begins.

To add the NES to the wishlist, shoppers need to sign up for an account on the ThinkGeek store. The ThinkGeek team has found a clever way to generate thousands of new leads for their store full of geek gifts. By sending out emails to random customers, ThinkGeek also avoids heavy load in their server once the NES goes on sale.

Timmy the Monkey is ThinkGeek's spokesmonkey. He will do the honors of randomly selecting customers.

ThinkGeek is offering NES Classic sweepstakes to promote the upcoming sale. ThinkGeek is giving away 5 NES Classic Edition consoles on thinkgeek.com. The giveaway ends in on Monday.

ThinkGeek is around since years and carries everything from Light sabers to T-shirts for geeks. Video Game retailer GameStop bought ThinkGeek back in 2015.

About the Nintendo NES Classic

The $59.99 Nintendo NES Classic Edition console launched on November 11 in stores and online. The supply was extremely constraint in stores and especially online. Right now all stores are sold out of the retro 80s TV gaming console.

Even NES accessories are hard to come by. Resellers offer the NES on the Amazon marketplace are $230 and up.

Nintendo had now two weeks time to replenish retailers with NES Classic Edition consoles. There is no update from Nintendo on the status of NES supply.

On launch day Nintendo said: "The Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand. There will be a steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season and into the new year. Please contact your local retailers to check availability."

The Target inventory of the NES is the first evidence of a new shipment of NES Classic Edition arriving in the United States.

The palm-sized NES console, retailing for $59.99 list price, features the classic Nintendo NES controller many geeks have grown up with. The retro console comes pre-installed with 30 classic NES games including Super Mario Bros., Pac-Man, Metroid, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and Kirby's Adventures. The NES Classic Edition system is a miniaturized version of the groundbreaking NES, originally released in 1985.

The NES Classic Edition comes only with a single wired controller. There are 3rd party controllers and accessories that make the NES more fun to use. Gamers can get additional controllers and even wireless controllers.
