Synaptics Introduces New Fingerprint Sensor Capable Of Scanning Through Glass

Just as we were syncing in rumors that Apple is to release edge to edge display iPhone in 2017, Synaptics has announced its very own under-glass finger print detection technology. The company has introduced a New Line of Natural ID FS9100 optical fingerprint sensors.

These sensors will be able to scan a fingerprint through 1mm of glass. This will encourage button-free display designs which also make use of finger print recognition functionality. Synaptics claims that the sensors have specifically been designed to be placed under cover glass which can be found in the front and bottom of bezel-less smartphones.

These sensors also eliminate the need for cut outs on the display of a phone. Since they are placed under glass they are waterproof and scratchproof. The sensors will also consume less power and will have an AI ability to detect fake and original fingers.

Apple is likely to have its own proprietary solution but we cannot forget Synaptics is also known supplier of Apple. The Synaptic optical finger print sensors are scheduled to start sampling in the first quarter of 2017 and the production will begin in the second half.
