  • Pokemon GO is not a Substitute for a Solid Exercise Session, according to a New Study

Apparently, Pokemon GO is not a substitute for a solid exercise session. It will not produce fitness results that are worthy of being envied.

Walking for a long time while playing Pokemon GO is something worth remembering with pleasure and joy. It is indeed an exciting and exhilarating game.

When your near and dear ones complained that you were obsessed with that game, you always had the excuse that it was improving your fitness levels. Seriously, it was supposed to be a source of a decent workout.

However, now evidence has emerged that any health benefits accruing from playing the game are short-lived. The study, published in the British Medical Journal, involved Pokemon GO players ranging in age from 18 to 35. They all used an Apple iPhone 6 to play the game.

This gadget also recorded the number of steps they took like a pedometer. The participants were paid $2 for their participation. Apparently, these players started out fast.

Since day one they showed a total daily count approximating to 995 steps more than those who didn’t play and thus had a different set of steps which they took.

By the time a month and a half had passed though, the surplus steps had dwindled to 130 only. What the game makers had promised in terms of health and fitness turned out to be nothing but an illusion.

This had been 2500 extra steps for the long haul, according to Phonearena. Yet no such thing happened when the claim was tested in reality. There were certain limitations to the study though.

Not everyone employs an Apple iPhone 6 for example. Besides this some players lost significant weight since they were extra enthusiastic about the game.

The increase in number of steps for the average player was moderate to low though. Therefore this game is not a substitute for a solid sweat-out session at the gym.

While it may increase general well-being by its concomitant effects, such as walking and being out in the sunlight, it was hardly enough to change someone from being out of shape and obese to fabulously fit.
