The Bruce Nolan war epic movie Dunkirk releases first official trailer featuring a star-studded cast and spectacular special effects

Dunkirk has already gathered some hype. It is Bruce Nolan’s upcoming war epic based around the battle of Dunkirk, the prelude and all the events leading to the battle between the Allied forces and Nazi Germany during World War II. A teaser for the movie was released and gathered praise and acclaim for excellent cinematography and special effects.

The first official trailer of the movie was released on Wednesday. The trailer gives the audience the premise of the story which they will expect to see when they turn out to watch the movie in theaters. After credit roll, we see Allied troops marching empty streets as flyers come down with the wind, one soldier catches it and see a graphic representation of in which the message is clear, “We Surround You”.

In the background, we can hear a distant alarm sound combined with a clock ticking which adds to the suspense of the sequence that unfolds along the duration of the trailer. We see a beach where bodies are lying around and from military vehicles adorned with British flags.  The other soldiers, that are still alive, are slowly marching into the waves where there are bodies of previously drowned soldiers bobbing around.

A voice tells that the enemy tanks have stopped. James D’Arcy’s character says why should they waste their tanks when they can kill them off from the air like fish in a barrel to Kenneth Branagh’s and a soldier is seen coming ahead, looking at something. We find out that he is looking at battalions of soldiers, standing in formation on the beach. Branagh’s character affirms that there are 400,000 men on the beach.

We see the devastation roll as bombers fly overhead, killing men on the beach with machine guns as many take cover in panic and try to run out of the hailstorm of bullets. Three soldiers, including Harry Styles’ Tommy watch a soldier go into the sea to commit suicide. Soldiers wait and try to target and navigate the planes’ flight from the beach and the ships in water.

One of the soldiers shouts that the plane is coming back around and the soldiers in the water take cover in the depths of the sea. Tommy covers his ears in the shallows as bullets are fired overhead. Ships are bombed and men are killed, many jump from the burning ships.

We see a ship sailing and one of the sailors throwing a line to rescue a soldier played by Cillian Murphy. He asks the Captain, played by Mark Rylance, where they are going. He is told they are going to Dunkirk and we see ships sailing to the beach. Murphy’s character cries out that he is not going back to which Rylance replies that there is no hiding from this.

He tells him that they have a job to do. Murphy tells them that if they go there, they will die. We see the scene from the teaser in which dead bodies are aligned on the beach with sand swirling over them.

We see a soldier load his gun, a ship being bombed, a German plane flying overhead and turning, soldiers hiding in the ship, a soldier getting shot as he tries to look out of a hole in the hull, other soldiers cover his mouth to stop him from screaming. Soldiers are rescued on sailor ships. Tom Hardy’s Farrier puts his mask on as a German flyer.

Soldiers try to take cover on the brig. Ships are bombed, Tommy reaches out in tears as he sinks further and further in depths of the sea, bombers flying in formation, troops cheering on sailor ships from the deck, two soldiers carrying a body on a gurney, soldiers fleeing the street.

Kenneth Branagh’s character says that they can practically see it from their position. When D’Arcy’s character asks what, he replies “home”. It is ominous, dark and devastating. Fans are already psyched about the movie and cannot wait for the summer next year when the movie is scheduled to release.
